Silicone potting compound refers to a two-component electronic potting adhesive made from silicone rubber. Silicone potting compound is generally soft and elastic. There are many types of silicone potting compounds, and different types vary significantly in temperature resistance, waterproof performance, insulation performance, optical performance, adhesion to different materials, and hardness. Silicone potting compound can be formulated with functional fillers to impart properties such as electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and magnetic permeability. The mechanical strength of silicone potting compound is generally relatively low, and it is precisely this characteristic that makes it "friable" for easy maintenance—meaning if a component fails, you only need to pry open the potting compound and replace the component with a new one. After restoring the original state, you can continue using it. The color of silicone potting adhesive can generally be customized as needed: transparent, opaque, or colored. Silicone potting compound performs exceptionally well in shock resistance, electrical properties, waterproofing, high and low temperature resistance, and anti-aging performance. Two-component silicone potting compounds are the most common, including condensation-cure and addition-cure types. Generally, the condensation-cure type has poor adhesion to components and potting housings, generates volatile low-molecular substances during curing, and exhibits noticeable shrinkage after curing. The addition-cure type (also known as silicone gel) has very low shrinkage and produces no low-molecular byproducts during curing. It can be cured rapidly by heating.
